XXIV. Asherah, Shekinah, Holy Ghost
Posted in: by Moon Elf on August 09, 2009
During my readings and research, I was struck by the fact that it seemed that all religions had a divine feminine archetype as their prime deity or at least held a trinity of Father, Mother, and Son. However, while there is a Holy Trinity in Christianity, I found the Divine Feminine starkly missing. One night, I ‘prayed’ in my own way to God and Goddess, the way I had come to associate with Divinity, in frustration asking where was the Divine Goddess in Christianity.
The answer I received came in the form of a dream that carried the recognizable vibration that anyone who has experienced OBE recognizes. In this dream was conveyed information which had not at all been part of my personal research and studies in ancient religion and myth. I was informed by two invisible vibrational entities, male and female, information about a Canaanite goddess named Asherah. She was the consort of the god Jehovah. As you may have guessed, I was surprised to find that Jehovah was a Canaanite god with a consort. Additionally, I was shown people in the Ancient Near East, in the Fertile Crescent, preparing for a celebration. They cut down date palms and carved the asherah poles. They brought bounty to the pole in the form of fruits, nuts, berries, grains, and I think even fish. These were offerings to the Goddess which would be prepared while prayers were said and chants were sung and offered up to her. I was also surprised to find out that this place was in ancient Sumeria, now Iraq, and that it was once lush and green. I was told that Asherah later was known by the Hebrews in their tantric practices of the Shekinah and this was later known in the bible as the Holy Ghost but that people had lost the connection with the Divine feminine by then. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and seeing, it all seemed so real yet I knew I was dreaming. When I awoke the next morning, I pulled up “Asherah” on my computer and found references to Canaanite mythology as well as the Hebrew Shekinah. I was astounded. I later discovered a book called The Hebrew Goddess which gave even more details as well as confirmed the elements learnt in my dream.
NOTE: This experience inspired the Latex Records CD compilation PRIMAL RIVER VALLEY
The most profound aspect of this experience was that I had actually gained knowledge about something I’d never studied through my dream. I had previously never looked at Canaanite mythology and the name Asherah was only vaguely familiar to me from the Old Testament mentioning the asherah poles but I had no idea previously what they were and never cared. Also, I’d heard the term Shekinha once in my teens from a pastor in our church but didn’t understand what he was talking about as this was a Hebrew concept and non-denominational Full Gospel churches are not versed in Judaism. I would have never connected Asherah to the Holy Ghost on my own I don’t think! However, I had found the Holy Family, much like Isis, Osiris, and Horus in Egypt, right there in Christianity. However, I also found it interesting to learn how much of Christianity was ‘borrowed’ from other pre-Christian pagan religions, specifically the very name of their God.
