XVIII. Shamanic Rhythms

Posted in: by Moon Elf on August 09, 2009

About the time that my wife was pregnant with our son, we had both recently been introduced to the concept of Hindu Chakras by pagan friends. These friends also showed us how you can use a dowsing tool to show which direction they flow (clockwise or counterclockwise). The method shown was using a terminated quartz crystal on the end of a line suspended over the area of the body where the chakra should be (refer to the 7 chakra system). When we did this while my wife was pregnant the region where the baby was, we suspected due to the addition of the child’s additional chakra energy, caused the crystal to spin in a very wide circular arc around her stomach. We were both shocked and amazed and had to admit that there was something to this chakra thing afterall. Any doubt was gone after that!

I began running a personal Web site based mostly on alternative music, CD review, and interviews. This was due to my interests in music and missing dancing all night at clubs and learning about new bands and albums. I was trying to keep myself in touch and not feel old more than anything. Becoming domestic was difficult in the sense that it did not afford time to play, dance, and enjoy music like I had in my younger days. However, I’d never trade the family I have now for anything but I simply love music and had to keep in touch with this part of my life as well. The Web site eventually began to branch out into book reviews and other unexpected areas as I began, though my personal reading, to see a connection between such things as shamanism and the rave scene through the similarities of trance and rhythm and the use of music to create this environment. Also, I accidentally found information online referring to such things as the Egyptian Ugarit and other ancient texts which predated the Christian bible and had similar statements regarding creation that sounded much like the statement, “In the Beginning was the Word…”. I realize this was related to the primal creative sound Om, or Aum. This introduction began a change in me that I do not know how to explain but I began to see all things as interconnected and I began to post the phrase “We are One” on the site. The following quote was also part of this influence:

“When you see the Earth from space, you don’t see any divisions of nation-states there. This may be the symbol of the new mythology to come; this is the country we will celebrate, and these are the people we are one with.” ~ Joseph Campbell

The site logo was a combination of the Norse Raidho rune for rhythm and faring and the fifth, throat, chakra, both symbols of rhythm. While focused mainly on alternative, Goth/Industrial, music, the site began to sport more and more pagan themes as well, including pagan music reviews. Eventually, I was introduced to concepts like Cymatics. Eventually, I became interested in Sumerian mythology since it seemed to have stories which seem to be the original versions of biblical stories but with completely different perspectives. This pretty much undermined any belief I would ever have in the Christian bible as being any form of authorative text.

NOTE: From the experience of running this site the CD compilation ELECTRO AGE was created and through it Latex Records was conceived.
